We are HER Power—a women’s empowerment group developed by three community advocates who saw an immediate need for resources that promote holistic well being across NYCHA developments. We hope by engaging in these practices together that women can move towards individual and community healing, while also becoming empowered as leaders.
I am a Brooklyn native who has resided in Tompkins Houses for the past year. I am currently a graduate student with a major in Public Administration at Metropolitan College of New York. In 2017 I graduated from Medgar Evers College with a major in Psychology and a minor in Public Administration. My areas of interest are in community development, equality of education, community health, and leadership. I am currently a Resident Champion for Tompkins Houses. I am looking forward to immersing myself in the HER Power initiative.
I am a professional Clinical Counselor who helps women in therapeutic residential settings. In community, I am a Public Advocate and Residential Champion for Marcy Houses and the Outreach Coordinator for HER Power. My drive for the HER Power project stems from my personal experience with trauma and violence as a child growing up in the foster care system. Through HER Power, I will help my community heal from past and present obstacles by facilitating Empowerment focused workshops. I am a survivor that understands the importance of embedding holistic practices in community so that we can have a better future.
