Community Action + Resident Empowerment (CARE) NYCHA Real Talk Summits

“Being part of the second annual CARE Summit – aka the NYCHA Real Talk conference – was such an amazing experience. Although this isn’t my first Real Talk conference, it felt different because my development, Stanley Issacs, had just finished voting on whether to transition into RAD/PACT or the Preservation Trust or stay public housing (Section9). 

Using the information I learned at the first conference, myself and a team of other tenant leaders had provided the residents of the buildings accurate information on all three choices before the vote. By the time the votes were tallied, the tenants had absorbed all the information and made the best choice for their families: stay in Section 9 was the clear winner of the vote. 

Coming back to the second conference with a victory is motivating and I hope after hearing me speak on the panel other residents will fight for their voices to be heard knowing that it is possible and tenant voices are powerful.”
