Kiki Tapiero (they/them) is a multiracial latinx queer abolitionst and an Immigrants’ Rights Staff Attorney. Prior to joining TakeRoot Justice, Kiki was a NYIFUP attorney at The Bronx Defenders for two years, where they represented individuals detained by ICE. At The Bronx Defenders, Kiki was involved in the Abolish ICE coalition and organizing a participatory defense campaign. While in school, Kiki participated in a variety of advocacy work, including facilitating a community education series with Pangea Legal Services, working on policy initiatives within the Brown University Office of the President, establishing a bond fund at Berkeley Law, coordinating a workers’ and tenants’ rights clinic at Centro Legal, participating in restorative justice circles at San Quentin Prison, publishing with La Raza Law Journal, and working at the Brown Center for Students of Color. Kiki received their J.D. from Berkeley Law and their B.A. from Brown University. They are also fluent in Spanish.
