VOCAL-NY partnered with TakeRoot Justice on a participatory action research project to document the lack of free, reliable Wi-Fi in single adult shelters and the impact that this has on the lives of homeless New Yorkers who live in those
NYCHA Real Talk is a train-the-trainers program to support community members in informing their neighbors on how to develop hyper-localized strategies related to public housing, land use and healthy homes for and with NYCHA communities.
In January 2021, in response to advocacy the Abolish the NYC Tax Lien Sale Coalition, the NYC City Council passed legislation charting the course for ending New York City’s tax lien sale (Local Law 24 of 2021).
TakeRoot provides legal and technical support to grassroots organizations creating Community Land Tursts in order to preserve long-term affordability and economic investment in their communities.
TakeRoot worked directly with residents at Wyckoff Gardens, LaGuardia Houses, Holmes Towers and Cooper Park Houses – the four sites where NYCHA and NYC Housing Preservation and Development have publicized an intention to allow private developers to construct market rate
